The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, or World Air Sports Federation is the international organization that oversees all sport flying. The CIAM is the subdepartment responsible for overseeing model flying.
Sometimes the term FAI is used in conjunction with F3C to mean helicopter flying competitions run under FAI rules.
The FAI recognizes national bodies that it charges with regulating air sports within their own country. These in turn may recognize or contain national aeromodelling associations.
