Coordinated flight

Unlike an airplane, a helicopter does not just fly forwards; it can also fly sideways and backwards. However, they are fastest and most efficient when flown forwards with the tail following directly behind. Flying like this is known as 'coordinated flight'; in particular, turns made like this using the rudder control to ensure the tail neither laggs inside nor steps out are called 'coordinated turns'.
