Ready to fly

Ready to fly (RTF for short) helicopters are supplied as a complete package consisting of everything necessary to get in the air, prebuilt. It should include:

• the RC Helicopter;
• the transmitter (but probably not transmitter batteries);
• helicopter battery and charger;
• all servos, gyro and receiver pre-installed on the helicopter.

Although all the parts are included, the helicopter is unlikely to have been set up at all (unless your retailer offers this service); so it will be necessary to go over the helicopter and check all screws for tightness, to balance the main blades and correct blade tracking, ensure the helicopter is balanced correctly, adjust the linkages to get correct blade pitch and level the swashplate, and finally learn to fly it.

Some have suggested the acronym would better stand for Ready To Fail...
